Leverage raises funds with gift card sales

The Santa Ana-based online gift card management service has launched an innovative charity program.

By Susan BelknappPublished: December 03, 2008

Leverage Inc., a leading provider of online gift card services, announced a national fundraising program that allows consumers to support their favorite charity by making gift card purchases through LeverageCard.com. It also allows charitable organizations a cost-free solution to generate revenue through gift card sales to consumers.

The fundraiser is easy to launch and market. Leverage provides each fundraising partner with a customized marketing kit, which includes online and offline publicity materials targeted. Organization Web sites can display a banner to direct consumers to LeverageCard.com’s landing page where they can purchase gift cards from more than 200 leading retail brands.

Fifty percent of the net profits of the gift card purchases that funnel from a charity site will go directly back to that charity. Additionally, once a supporter has named a charity, the net revenue generated by that supporter’s gift card purchases over the entire year will automatically go to their chosen organization.

"With the fragile economy, money earned through fundraising efforts is more crucial than ever to nonprofit organizations and Leverage has provided an innovative model that allows charities to raise funds on a constant basis so they are not solely dependent upon that one-time annual donor," says Mark Edward Roberts, CEO and co-founder of Leverage Inc. "It's a win-win for both the charity and the consumer with the charities getting an additional no-cost source of income and the consumers able to give to their favorite causes while purchasing the gift cards they would likely be buying anyway.
