Hidden in a small strip mall in San Juan Capistrano, Bistro 311 has the answer. My friend and I began the meal with the free-range chicken and avocado wontons starter, served with organic spinach, spicy Muenster and a side of hoisin plum dipping sauce. As with the starter, most of the menu boasts fresh and organic ingredients. While my friend ordered the grilled swordfish sandwich, I went with the blackened ahi steak sandwich. All the sandwiches come with a choice of sea-salt infused or sweet potato fries, soup (try the organic tomato basil bisque) or the 311 house salad. An array of salads and sandwiches fills the menu, yet for a fancier lunch, there’s the grilled fish of the day, filet mignon or penne pesto pasta with chicken. Though it’s tucked away, Bistro 311 is worth the drive – it’s Californian to the max. You will feel relaxed enough to lounge in your flip-flops, but your taste buds will be treated like a movie star. |
