McCarthy Building Companies of Newport Beach last month received the American Heart Association Western States Affiliate Excellence in Corporate Partnership Award, an annual award for companies that support the nonprofit organization as part of corporate responsibility programs.
The regional affiliate serves the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The award recognizes workplace efforts to support of the American Heart Association’s mission of decreasing the incidence of cardiovascular disease and stroke, two of the leading causes of death in America, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Since 2004, McCarthy has provided more than $860,000 in sponsorships and employee fundraising to the organization.
“We are very fortunate to have McCarthy Building Companies as an ally in the fight against heart disease and stroke in Orange County,” said Tammy Rocker, executive director of the American Heart Association Orange County Division. “Mike Bolen and the employees of McCarthy are so deeply committed to our mission and without their support our work would be much more difficult.”
McCarthy was recognized for organizing companywide physical activity challenges, establishing walking routes in headquarters, providing health education and creating employee volunteering and fundraising opportunities. For the last eight years, McCarthy employees have created one of the largest teams for the Orange County Heart Walk. The firm is designated as an AHA Platinum Fit-Friendly Company for its efforts in promoting health and physical activity in the workplace.
“We at McCarthy are incredibly honored and grateful for this recognition,” Bolen said. “We are proud of our alliance with the American Heart Association and committed to continuing the work of building healthier lives here in Orange County and across America.”
