McCarthy Building earns Performance Excellence award
The Newport Beach company had to demonstrate superiority in 7 areas of business.

Newport Beach's McCarthy Building Cos. has been named a recipient of the California Awards for Performance Excellence – or CAPE – Prospector Award.
Presented by the California Council for Excellence, the award is meant to emulate the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program and recognizes companies for demonstrating superior performance in seven key business areas, including leadership, strategic planning and work force focus.
“A driving force behind all aspects of our success is the commitment to continuous improvement,” said Carter Chappel, McCarthy’s California region president. “This commitment provides for superior results for our employee-owners, clients, partners and communities. We are honored to be recognized for the success of these efforts by the California Council for Excellence.”
The award comes in addition to McCarthy’s established reputation as one of the safest contractors in America, leading the way with its Quality Without Question Program. The company also has garnered a spot on the nationally recognized 2011 Training Top 125 list for its personalized employee instruction and development program.
McCarthy is the nation’s oldest and largest domestic general contractor. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, though its Newport Beach office serves as the base for operations in the greater L.A./O.C. area. The company also operates locations in San Diego, Sacramento and San Francisco, Calif.; Phoenix; Las Vegas; Dallas; Houston; and Atlanta.
