![]() "This is a great opportunity for two significant health care providers to come together and provide state-of-the-art surgical services," said Andrew Hayek, president and CEO of Surgical Care Affiliates. "We are proud to be partnering with MemorialCare." The foundation is the physician group division of the larger MemorialCare Health System, a network comprised of six hospitals and other medical centers throughout the region. Its 2,000 member physicians also belong to the Memorial Care Medical Group, Independent Practice Association—Greater Newport Physicians, as well as affiliated physicians. Operating in partnership with Beach Surgical Holdings and Surgical Care Affiliates, the joint venture will collaborate with local physicians and partners, including Monarch HealthCare, while benefiting the local community. Prof. Barry Arbuckle, president and CEO of MemorialCare Health System, points out that forty years ago, nearly all surgeries were performed in hospitals. "Many are now performed on a same-day basis in ambulatory surgery centers. This frees up surgical time in hospitals for those procedures that require hospitalization while saving U.S. taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars by moving more surgeries into convenient, high quality, outpatient settings." The partnership will ultimately deliver an integrated system of outpatient surgical services available at more than 200 care locations across Southern California, including six hospitals. The first locations to be integrated into the plan resulted from the merger of the MemorialCare Surgical Center at Saddleback in Laguna Hills and the Saddleback Valley Outpatient Surgery Center in Laguna Woods. "We are excited to expand our historical Saddleback Valley Outpatient Surgery Center relationship with Monarch surgeons though this new collaboration with MemorialCare Medical Foundation," said Dr. Bart Asner, CEO of Monarch HealthCare. "We look forward to broadening our outpatient surgery capabilities to achieve better care, lower cost and a superior experience for patients in our community." Beach Surgical Holdings will be responsible for providing management services across the different centers.
