![]() “We built this tower to address all aspects of patient care – from meeting critical medical needs, to healing for the mind and spirit, to comforts for family and loved ones,” says Mission Hospital President and CEO Peter Bastone. Among the most notable features: • Single Photon Emission Computer Tomography equipment, which uses nuclear medicine to produce 3-D images that allow physicians to see how organs are functioning • A linear accelerator, which pinpoints high-energy X-rays directly to a patient’s tumor, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue, to more effectively isolate and destroy cancer cells • A new 20-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, which provides for patients who require a higher level of care following complex surgery, traumatic brain injury or stroke • A 24-bed Progressive Care and Stroke Unit, which provides care for patients who are below the critical level but above the medical-surgical level, including rooms outfitted with restricted air-flow systems for patients with respiratory illnesses or other conditions that require isolation In addition, the tower’s award-winning architecture allows for an abundance of natural light to promote the body’s day-to-night cycle – or circadian rhythm – which supports the natural healing process. McCarthy Building Cos. of Newport Beach was the project’s general contractor and RBB Architects of Los Angeles was the architect. |
