![]() The natural and organic products expo, which ran March 11-14, marked its 30th anniversary in Anaheim – and organizers have also inked a three-year contract for the center through 2013. "The natural and organic industry continues to grow," notes Adam Andersen, show manager. "2010 metrics including attendance and hundreds of new product introductions at Expo West are proof-positive of the strategic value surrounding in-person business events." More than 1,900 companies showcased, among other items, natural and specialty foods and health and beauty products. The event also featured "Food Inc." director Robert Kenner and 350.org founder Bill McKibben as guest speakers. Local firms, such as Aliso Viejo-based Grow Green Industries, which developed the Eat Cleaner line that removes harmful chemicals from produce, seafood and poultry, were among those in attendance. In addition, Tazo, a part of Seattle-based Starbucks Corp., unveiled its zero-calorie naturally sweetened bottled teas during the event. When it debuts April 1, it will be the first-of-its-kind available in natural grocery retailers. Among the weekend's other features: the SupplyExpo and the Natural Living pavilion, which highlights eco-friendly home and lifestyle platforms. The latter doubled this year, according to a statement from Colorado-based New Hope Natural Media, which runs the event. "This year's Natural Products Expo West mirrors major business and consumer shifts to values of health and sustainability," says Fred Linder, president of New Hope, a division of Penton Media. Nutrition industry sales hit $110 billion in the U.S. last year – a $10 billion boost from the prior period, according to Nutrition Business Journal. Linder says the growth of the natural products industry showcases the expanding demand for healthy, environmentally efficient products. Next year's Natural Products Expo West is set for March 10-13 at the center.
