UC Irvine recently announced that the official “topping off” ceremony for the New Media Arts Building will take place on Monday, Dec. 1. As the newest addition to the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, the New Media Arts Building will continue the university's innovative tradition of integrating arts and technology.

The ceremony will include a beam signing followed by the beam's placement on the 38,000-square foot building, which is still under construction. UCI Chancellor Micahel Drake and Acting Dean Alan Terricciano of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts will preside.

The new eco-friendly building, when completed, will include classrooms and labs that feature state-of-the-art facilities for students and educators including digital arts instruction labs, a motion capture studio, a sound design studio lab, an electronic music studio, an art gallery and mixed-media performance space.

The New Media Arts Building is scheduled to open in 2010.
