Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor Inc. is joining the Cool Planet Project in an effort to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, use less energy and water, and increase its energy efficiency.

The Cool Planet Project is an energy efficiency and climate-change mitigation program that's administered by The Climate Registry and Southern California Edison. The program highlights the connection between energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.

By joining the Cool Planet Project, the chipmaker is furthering its work to overhaul its operations and be more environmentally friendly. Jazz has already instituted new technology in its fabrication facility that has saved more than 7.5 million kilowatt hours per year and, as a result, has avoided emitting 5,386 tons of greenhouse gas.
