![]() The move comes as Play N Trade makes its transition from a small retailer to the third-largest specialty video game seller in the U.S., according to Tony Gillette, Play N Trade's senior vice president of retail operations. GameStop and Game Crazy are the only two retailers with more operations. "We were looking for a retail technology partner that could easily scale with us to thousands of stores in the U.S. and abroad," continues Gillette. To that end, Play N Trade contracted with Retail Teamwork founder and CEO Michael Mauerer – also founder and architect of Retail Pro(R) and original leader of QuickBooks POS(R) at Intuit Corp. – earlier this year as a retail systems consultant. "After several discovery meetings we saw a great opportunity to move toward a strategic partnership," says Mauerer. "With Retail Teamwork, Play N Trade franchisees will be on a competitive technological footing with any retailer in the world." Play N Trade's system is being redesigned to incorporate such features as point-of-sale, retail merchandising, inventory forecasting and marketing and customer relationship management. The programs work seamlessly together both for the company's corporate entity as well as for the single or multiunit franchise owner. Among the other features: The network allows the company's product team to stream up-to-the-minute pricing recommendations for used and new games as well as trade-ins. The technology also allows Play N Trade to merge advanced Web functions with standard programs usually only used by larger retailers.
