The Orange County Transit Committee agreed Thursday to recommend a bus service reduction plan to the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) board of directors that would eliminate 150,000 annual revenue vehicle hours (RVHs) through a combination of eliminating routes, reducing bus frequency, restructuring routes and reducing trips.

The committee members also voted on a plan to eliminate another 150,000 RVHs should state transit or other funding be further impeded. The service cuts need to be approved by the full board in order to be implemented in March. The board is set to vote at its Nov. 26 meeting. The vote was 4 to 1 with Transit Committee Chair Janet Nguyen dissenting.

Committee members also encouraged employees to work with Cal State Fullerton students on plans to restructure service in North Orange County. Staff members were encouraged to explore and share options for those impacted by route eliminations including ACCESS customers.
