The Orange County Great Park Balloon's ridership soared to more than 100,000 in August. It's a milestone for the attraction, which took its inaugural flight in July 2007 and has since become one of the highlights of the developing area.

The Orange County Great Park – which is touted as the first great metropolitan park of the 21st century – is located at the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Irvine. The park covers more than 1,300 acres and is expected to draw in both residents and visitors to the area with its planned sports park and fields; botanical gardens; and cultural terrace, as well as its entertainment offerings.

The balloon resides in the 27.5-acre Preview Park, which offers concerts, dances, workshops and events for families. Every ride is free, as it rises 400 feet into the air. The tethered orange orb offers individuals a thrilling view of O.C.
