O.C. bankruptcy filings rise in September
Though number increased 48 percent from '08, it is down from August.

Photo courtesy of FotoliaThe number of individuals and businesses who filed for bankruptcy protection in Orange County in September hit 1,277, up 48.1 percent from the same time last year, according to stats from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
But the number is down 7.9 percent since August, which saw 1,387 filings.
There were 1,057 Chapter 7 filings, up 47.2 percent from September 2008. Chapter 13 bankruptcies had the second highest number, with 202 filings. But that number rose 56.6 percent from the same time last year.
