Orange County's median home price got a 9.6 percent uptick in December, compared to the same time last year, according to newly released stats from MDA DataQuick.

The number rose to $435,000 last month, up from $397,000 in December 2008. The price also increased slightly from November, which saw a $432,250 median.

For the entire Southern California region – which includes Orange, L.A., Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties – the median rose 4 percent, compared to December 2008. The price hit $289,000 last month, up from $278,000.

There are a number of reasons for the spike in the median prices, according to DataQuick President John Walsh.
