![]() Some 600 guests are expected to attend the sixth annual breakfast, which works to support Orange County women and girls through programs that help them meet their basic needs and provide them with resources to become self-sufficient. This year's event will feature Liz McCartney, CNN's 2008 Hero of the Year, as the keynote speaker. McCartney co-founded the St. Bernard Project in March 2006 after volunteering to help St. Bernard Parish, La., residents put their lives back together in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The program provides tools and support to the families. In about 12 weeks with roughly $12,000, the organization can transform a damaged house into a comfortable and safe home for families. The event will also include a recognition of five local heroes who will be honored for their commitment to others, and NBC-4's Orange County Bureau Chief Vicki Vargas will serve as emcee.
