Orange County auto sales continue to slide

But Hyundai, Kia see some bright spots.

Orange County auto sales continue to see year-over-year declines, with the largest drop coming again from Brea-based Suzuki. The company is reporting a 78 percent decrease compared to June 2008. But it's not all bad news: Fountain Valley-based Hyundai and Irvine-based Kia both experienced a 3 percent uptick between May and June. This is the fourth consecutive month of increased sales for Kia, and Hyundai outsold Dodge in June for the first time, according to the company. This makes Hyundai the No. 6 best-selling brand in the U.S. Here's a breakdown of the rest of the numbers:

June sales: 37,943
May sales: 36,937
Increase: 3 percent
Decrease over June 2008: 24 percent

Irvine-based Kia Motors America

June sales: 26,845
May sales: 26,060
Increase: 3 percent
Decrease over June 2008: 5 percent

Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations

June sales: 13,729
May sales: 16,718
Decrease: 17 percent
Decrease over June 2008: 42.2 percent

Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America
June sales: 4,362
May sales: 4,352
Increase: 0.23 percent
Decrease over June 2008: 41.7 percent

Brea-based American Suzuki Motor Corp.
June sales: 2,149
May sales: 2,585
Decrease: 16.8 percent
Decrease over June 2008: 78 percent
