A number of local businesses and organizations are recognizing Earth Day by holding celebrations throughout the coming week. Here's our roundup of the festivities: April 18 Yoga Shakti Studios, located in Irvine and Huntington Beach, is hosting a free yoga class and beach cleanup at the Huntington Beach Pier. The 60-minute class will begin on the north side of the pier at 8 a.m. and will include a complimentary snack from ProBar and Sambazon. The beach cleanup will follow the session, and Yoga Shakti Studios will provide gloves and bags. Organization and Senator Lou Correa, are holding this event in Anaheim to lower utility costs by educating local families. The community service organization, which has created programs such as Orange County Head Start and Orange County Hunger Coalition, received funds from President Obama's stimulus package that allows them to offer low-income families in Orange County free weatherization and utility services. Most of the event will be spent canvasing certain neighborhoods and identifying the people who will benefit from the program, but the event is open to families interested in the services. April 20 Bluewater Grill, located in Newport Beach and Tustin, is making donations to the Surfrider Foundation for each of its Earth Day-inspired cocktails purchased from April 20 to 26. The Bluewater Grill Greeny-tini features Blue Ice Vodka, triple sec, Sour Apple Pucker and a floating lime wheel symbolizing the earth; and the Obamatini features Blue Ice Vodka, pineapple juice, blue curacao, cranberry juice and is garnished with a lime. The company's environmental efforts last year provided the company with a $100,000 annual cost savings. And to meet its goal of decreasing energy usage by 10 percent in 2009, the company has implemented an Energy Task Force subcommittee, which will provide leadership, innovation and direction in the implementation of energy efficiency. To celebrate the success of its environmental initiatives, Sole Technology is holding the Green Sole Awards in its Sole Technology Institute. It's the world's first and only biomechanics lab dedicated to studying the impacts of skateboarding. Among the other festivities: Sole Technology will open its Eco-learning Center to aid employees in living more eco-conscious lives; eco-artwork from Robert Park Harrison will be on display; information sessions will be held about greening your office; and Roian Atwood, manager of environmental affairs at Sole, will give a presentation.
