Orange County gears up for Fourth of July

Fireworks, parades and games are among the festivities offered throughout the region.

Fourth of July is upon us, and Orange County is preparing for the big day. A number of cities are offering fireworks, parades and games for family and friends to celebrate our nation's history. Here's a roundup of events:

The Cellar

The Cellar, one of Orange County's top-of-the-line eateries, will be offering entrées for $10 both before and after the Fourth of July holiday. Executive Chef David Kesler will be preparing French-inspired selections including poached filet of salmon with bay shrimp and a chardonnay-chive butter sauce; and prime New York steak broiled and served with a pepper and brandy cream sauce.

San Clemente's Independence Day Celebration

The city of San Clemente will be holding its annual fireworks display from the Municipal Pier at 9 p.m., but there's plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine on the beach before the show. The end of the pier will close at 4 a.m. July 3 for preliminary preparation, and the entire pier will shut down at 8 a.m. on Saturday. It will remain closed until Sunday, July 5. The Fisherman's Restaurant will be open for patrons.

The Resort at Pelican Hill's Golf & Dine Experience

Celebrate Independence Day with a round of golf with breakfast – served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – or lunch, which is offered until 4 p.m. on the outside patio at Caffé II. Breakfast includes a breakfast burrito and Bloody Mary, and the outdoor grill lunch offers a choice of hamburgers, hot dogs or bratwurst, chips and soda or juice. Following your meal, golf on either of the resort’s Tom Fazio designed 18-hole courses, Ocean North or Ocean South. The special costs $250 per person; call 949.467.6800 for reservations.

San Juan Capistrano's Independence Day Celebration

San Juan Capistrano will present its annual Fourth of July bash beginning at 3 p.m. at the San Juan Capistrano Sports Park. Among the festivities offered: family games, pony rides, entertainment, food and, of course, fireworks. The grand celebration will begin at 6 p.m.; and the evening will come to an end with a fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Huntington Beach's Fourth of July Celebrates the Centennial

Huntington Beach's Centennial Celebration comes to life this year with a number of festivities. Among the attractions: a Pier Plaza Festival starting at 10 a.m. on July 3; Pancake Breakfast at 6 a.m. in Lake Park on July 4; and the Surf City 5K Run and Fitness Expo from 7 a.m. till noon on Saturday. But the main draw is the 105th annual parade, which starts at Pacific Coast Highway and Eighth Street at 10 a.m., as well as the fireworks show, which begins at 9 p.m. Saturday. Pre-fireworks entertainment will include the Golden West Pops Symphony, and Kelly Tillotson will sing the national anthem.

The American Legion Fourth of July Boat Parade

Come celebrate The American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291’s annual boat parade. Awards and trophies will be given to best tugboat, wooden classic, dinghy, electric power and sailboat. The spirit of competition as well as patriotism drives the more than 100 participants to outdo themselves each year with music, costumes and creative animation. The parade will line up at 12:30 p.m. off of Collins Island, beginning with the Harbor Patrol Fire Boat and VIP Boat. Admission is free.
