Local law enforcement officials and adolescents are participating in Lindora Medical Center’s second annual Battle of the Badges competition, encouraging Orange County residents to shed unhealthy weight.

Sponsored by Lindora’s Lean for Life Foundation, the Battle of the Badges begins tomorrow at the organization's clinic in Irvine. And officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Santa Ana and Anaheim police departments, will take part in Lindora’s 10-week weight-loss program under medical supervision.

The program, which features cognitive and behavioral phases, teaches not only how to eat properly, but how to keep the weight off in the long run.

“We hope that Battle of the Badges calls attention to the problems associated with being overweight, one of America’s most daunting health crises, which impacts all of us, including the younger generation,” says Lindora President Cynthia Stamper Graff. “By putting their lives on the line for us every day, these brave men and women already are our heroes. Now they will take on a new challenge—becoming healthy heroes which we hope will inspire the youngsters to become lean for life.”

The competition will begin with a weigh-in at 10:30 a.m. at 15315 Culver Drive, #180-D. Only the officers will be weighed. A final weigh-in will be held at the end of the competition, and the team closest to its goal will be declared the winner.
