Great Park Conservancy’s ‘Jewel of Orange County’

By Tina BorgattaPublished: September 01, 2009

Historic Hangar 244 served as the backdrop for the Great Park Conservancy’s fourth annual fundraiser, “Jewel of Orange County,” which garnered $100,000 to help fund the development of the park’s wildlife corridor, a citrus orchard and a Farm & Food Lab, among other attractions. (You can thank the conservancy for raising more than $3 million for park development to date.)

Guests – more than 300 of them – sipped OC Zingers (the specialty cocktail of the night), dined on an organic grilled dinner served on environmentally friendly plates, danced and enjoyed the view of the giant orange balloon as Jazzy Boy Jeff provided the evening’s music.

Also celebrated: a donation of 5,000 citrus trees from Halvajian Desert Nursery, grown specially for the Great Park’s 20-acre citrus orchard, which will be part of the Community Farm. A live auction added to the evening’s fun.

VIPs in attendance included Great Park Conservancy Chairwoman Marian Bergeson; Great Park Corp. board members Larry Agran, Steven Choi, Beth Krom and Bill Kogerman; and event underwriters Sheila and Jim Peterson, and Teddie and Michael Ray, among other sponsors. And big kudos go to the team that planned the bash: Janet Ray, Peggy Goldwater Clay, Tom Nielsen, Sheila Peterson, Joni Brice and Lizanne Witte.
