  • Propertyroom.com, an online auction site that works with law enforcement agencies to sell recovered goods, continues to see more visitors to its site, searching for good deals.

The site had more than 30 million page views in December, as well as more than 1 million visitors. That's a 35 percent increase over December 2007. Along with stronger traffic numbers, the company experienced a 25 percent revenue increase over the prior year.

“In this down economy, people need to seek out bargains,” says PJ Bellomo, CEO for propertyroom.com. “Online auctions are a great place for doing just that. Shoppers can find quality merchandise at rock-bottom prices. Plus the selection is enticing, because they can find unique items that they may not find elsewhere. Our strong sales numbers indicate the direction online shoppers are going.”

A recent survey from comScore, a marketing research company, found that 21 percent of people surveyed shopped at online auction sites during the recent holiday. It also reported that 46 percent of shoppers searched for less expensive gifts, while another 37 percent are searching for deals online.

And that's where propertyroom.com has found its niche – the site works with more than 1,300 law enforcement agencies to sell previously stolen merchandise that could not be returned to its owner. It offers a selection of items for a much lower price than what they would cost new such as jewelry, sunglasses, cameras and apparel.
