Quantum introduces state-of-the-art system, continued ...

The system's first application is in the military's Alternative Mobility Vehicle, which runs on JP-8 diesel fuel. In this particular configuration, the diesel engine produces 75 horsepower; the electric motor churns outs 133 horsepower; and the powertrain generates 5,463 foot-pounds of torque after gear reduction.

But the company says the Q-Force can be easily modified to produce more or less power for different vehicles and uses. In fact, a number of preproduction models that utilize the Q-Force have been developed and built for testing and evaluation. Trials will judge mission suitability, supportability, performance objectives and guidance of the system.

Other features of the Q-Force include a hybrid control application that minimizes battery size through efficient charge controls and regenerative breaking; optimized engine operation and calibration, as well as generator performance; advanced traction motor and transmission system.
