The city of San Juan Capistrano continues its efforts to reduce greenhouse gasses, energy and consumption costs by utilizing hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles. It announced Thursday that the city council approved the purchase of a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid and a Toyota Prius. The vehicles will be funded by $59,000 from the Air Quality Management District (AQMD). The fund is for specific “green-use” projects. The hybrids will further expand San Juan Capistrano’s “green” fleet, which already consists of five hybrid (gas/electric) vehicles, three bi-fuel (gas/propane) vehicles and a non-highway, fully electric vehicle.
