![]() The product, Behr No. 62 Interior & Exterior Multi-Surface Cleaner and Mildew Stain Remover, was targeted because of its claim to remove algae and fungus, which classifies the product as a pesticide. However, the product was not registered as such. “Products whose labels make claims to remove living organisms, including algae and fungus, are considered pesticides and must be registered,” says Katherine Taylor, associate director of the agency's Communities and Ecosystems division. Taylor says that companies with unregistered pesticide products are in violation of federal law and may be subject to fines.
