About 2.2 million Southern Californians are expected to travel over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, according to a new report from the Auto Club. The number is up 8 percent from last year, though it is down 32 percent from 2007.

The Auto Club calls the jump a "partial rebound," but the downturn in the economy is still weighing heavily on the minds of consumers, according to spokesman Jeffrey Spring.

"A recent poll we took of local residents revealed that of those who do plan to travel over the November and December holidays, more than one-third are planning to spend less on their trips," he says.

About 1.9 million people – or 85 percent – are expected to travel via automobile over the holiday, according to the report. The number is up 9 percent from last year, though it's down 26 percent from 2007. Some 166,000 individuals will get to their destination via plane, which is a 1 percent decline from 2008 and a 60 percent decrease from 2007.
