The most popular place to travel for Southern Californians? Las Vegas.
The Auto Club says that gas prices will be almost 30 percent higher than last year. The average price for a gallon of regular gas is currently $2.944 in Orange County, up from $2.181 a year ago.
For the entire state, about 3.5 million people are expected to travel, which is an 8 percent jump from last year, though it's down 32 percent from 2007. Some 38.4 million Americans are projected to take a trip during the holiday. The number is up 1.4 percent from 2008 and down 24 percent from 2007.
