Amadeus Spa

By Tina BorgattaPublished: June 01, 2009

I’d just spent a weekend in the sun, and my skin was thirsty. I needed a quick therapeutic treatment, and the Fairmont Newport Beach is practically around the corner from my office. It has a great spa – Amadeus. So, I jumped online and clicked through the long list of facial treatments. A number of them caught my eye. Among them:

Brazilian Propolis Facial: Hydrates and builds health and immunity of the skin. Sounded interesting, but 60 minutes. Too long.

“HOT” Enzyme Facial: Treats fine lines, dryness, acne and hyper-pigmentation. Hmm. I could probably use that, but again, 60 minutes. Nope.

Echo II Pure Oxygen Facial: Dramatic visible results; uses 87 vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids; a pure-oxygen spray helps regenerate natural collagen. And there’s a 30-minute treatment. Perfect!

So I booked an appointment for after work. Because I knew I’d need a little time to decompress, I took a quick soak in the Sanctuary Room’s whirlpool tub first – a great primer.

Like all facials, this one started with an exfoliation to remove dead skin. Then my face was wrapped in hot towels, to aid in extracting congestion. That was followed by a cold-towel
application. Then it was time to slather on a magic potion of 87 minerals, enzymes, amino acids and vitamins (A, D and E). My aesthetician massaged the soothing mixture into my skin and, after a few minutes, applied the oxygen spray to my neck and face, saturating the eye areas with the cool mist. In addition to having its own regenerative benefits, the oxygen facilitates the skin’s absorption of the serum.

The results really were immediate and dramatic. My skin looked supple and glowing – and a little oily. But my aesthetician told me that my skin would absorb the potion overnight.

The next day, my skin looked even more fabulous than when I left the spa. I just might try the 60-minute treatment next time.
