![]() The pampering began as soon as I handed my car keys to the valet. The only true waterfront resort in Orange County (boats dock right in front of the hotel), the resort offers an ocean view that’s a sort of spiritual welcome. The rhythmic tide and cool ocean breeze were a prelude to the relaxing afternoon I was about to enjoy. Prior to my treatment, I ventured into the eucalyptus-infused steam room. The scent in the mist-filled chamber was cleansing, and every pore on my body seemed to breathe easier. A short stint in the dry-heat sauna, followed by a dip in the whirlpool, and I was relaxed and ready for the main event: my caviar facial. First came a thorough cleansing with Pevonia’s Timeless Balm Cleanser. Then a mixture that included crushed pearls was gently pressed onto my face with the promise of smoothing wrinkles and improving elasticity. Next, a layer of gauze, with cutouts for my eyes, nose and mouth, was placed over the pearl mixture. Finally came the cool and soothing black-as-tar caviar, which was painted on with smooth strokes. While the caviar mask hardened, I enjoyed an arm-and-hand massage, and then my favorite, a leg-and-foot massage. The Pevonia Myoxy-Caviar products are infused with marine and botanical ingredients that are said to increase oxygenation and suppleness. I’m a believer. Ready to indulge? The spa is available to resort members and guests only, so you’ll have to book an overnight or weekend stay. Rooms start at $220 per night, and some great fall packages are available now.
