He says Nippon is a strong strategic partner for both Spectrum and apaziquone.
Under the agreement, Nippon will receive the rights to apaziquone for the treatment of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer in Asia, including Japan and China. The company will be responsible for the expenses related to the development and commercialization of the drug in Nippon's territory, among other terms.
Apaziquone is an antineoplastic agent that is currently being investigated to treat the disease, which affects about 70 percent of patients diagnosed with bladder cancer, according to stats cited by Spectrum.
The firm is currently performing two phase-three clinical trials to study the drug's safety and efficacy in nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer. Spectrum hopes to complete enrollment in both studies by the end of this year.
