"(The cuts) in no way reflect on the individual contributions of the people who will be leaving us. ... We are very grateful to them," says Andrus.

At the end of 60 days, severance benefits will kick in for the laid off workers. The program depends on the individual's length of service at the organization and the position he or she held.

Orange County is not the only region targeted for reductions, says Andrus. The faith-based Catholic organization – which employs 23,000 throughout the state, west Texas and eastern New Mexico – was forced to lay off staffers at some of its Northern California facilities a few months ago.

Thats a shame. I did work at Mission Hospital 10 years ago and it was like having a big family to be around. We at the school district are also having "heavy cuts" also.
