Spring cleaning

By Michelle Pulfrey and Amy DenoonPublished: April 01, 2011

It’s time to start packing away those winter sweaters and boots, toss out last season’s makeup and make room for new goodies. As we welcome all things spring, we celebrate the season’s must-have style and beauty gems. From classic, stylish basics to striking swimwear, we’ve got the inside scoop on what’s hot in the O.C. now.

• Designer spotlight: Meet Brandy Melville

Meet Brandy Melville, our new favorite affordable fashion haunt at Fashion Island. Since arriving in the U.S. from Italy in 2008, Brandy Melville has become a cult favorite of style-hungry women everywhere. From off-the-shoulder tees and dresses to A-line tanks and soft Angora sweaters, we love that Brandy Melville has something to fit any woman’s style, closet and budget.
Some of our faves this season include the subtly sexy slouchy off-the-shoulder Kayla sweater, the oversized Anita sweater and the ultra-soft Joanna tank in beachy stripes and woven canvas solids. They’re perfect staples for any Southern California girl’s wardrobe and can easily be dressed up or down.
Better yet: The Brandy Melville store at Fashion Island gets new items in at least once a week and consistently stocks comfortable and affordable basics in soft, sheer fabrics – often in stripes and fun prints.
Seriously, this is one store we know you’ll love. Brandy Melville, Fashion Island; 949.640.0488

• Thanks for the help, Coach!

Coach really nailed it this season with its chic must-haves for the approaching warm weather. Although our personal taste in handbags differs, we both agree that the Madison tote in its perfect neutral shade will be a go-to bag for the season. The slouchy shape is big enough to fit all our glam-and-go items, and the chain detail gives it a sassy edge. Prices start at $298.
And for those “I can’t wear Havaianas or heels with this outfit” kind of day, check out the Ireena Espadrille, available in natural or black. We love the perfect 3  -inch heel height and the little bow detail. What we love more: They’re $148 each – we can get both! We’ll happily be flying Coach this spring! Available at Coach, South Coast Plaza; 714.979.1771

• MAC out your retro glam
With its just-in-time-for-spring Quite Cute Collection, MAC offers up all of the pastel pleasure you need with this limited-edition selection of colors. The palettes are perfectly paired with a mix of sexy yet subtle glosses and blushes, shockingly beautiful lipsticks and pretty, punchy nail colors. We think the Easter Bunny should leave a little MAC treat in every Stylista’s basket. MAC, South Coast Plaza; 714.751.2142
