SunCal signs deal to buy development near Chicago

The Irvine-based builder eyes historic 47-acre Stonebridge property.

Family-owned SunCal Cos., a leading national private land developer, has signed a purchase agreement for the historic Stonebridge development near Chicago.
 
Irvine-based SunCal has been creating master-planned and mixed-use communities throughout Southern California for years, with many locations throughout Orange County, including Fullerton, Orange and Brea.

The emphasis for each SunCal community is on family experience and quality of life. Residents can enjoy trails, parks and recreation centers. And each community is conveniently developed near reputable schools and shopping centers.   

With the recent purchase agreement for Stonebridge, SunCal Cos. is looking to implement those same ideals that have made its Orange County communities so successful.

"There are few locations with the historical and cultural significance that this site possesses," said Casey Tischer, vice president of land acquisitions for SunCal. "We recognize that this exceptional property requires thoughtful and sensitive development, and we fully intend to see this through to completion according to the high standards we're known for."

Acquired in 1914 by William V. Kelley, Stonebridge offers 47.3 acres of pristine woodlands, ponds and open lands in Lake Bluff, Ill. Kelley’s manor and carriage house still remain, and plans are to restore the property for future residents, with 71 new homes to follow.
