Sunset Beach is set to become part of Huntington Beach early next year. The Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved the annexation of the 134-acre community.
The process will now enter a 30-day reconsideration period in which individuals can request the commission reconsider the item – but new information must first be presented, said Benjamin Legbandt, a policy analyst with the agency.
Legbandt said he was unsure whether the measure would be reconsidered.
"We just don't know," he said. "It kind of seems that some of the residents were contemplating (it), but I don't know what additional information could be presented."
Under the annexation, Sunset Beach, which has a population of more than 1,200, will be able to retain its name, and the community's greenbelt will be maintained, among other requirements.
If no new information is presented, the matter is slated for completion in January.
