The Aliso Viejo-based Surf Industry Manufacturers Association will hold its next SIMA Image Awards ceremony in January or February, rather than during the Surf Summit in Cabo San Lucas in May, so that more members of the industry can participate. The organization is considering locations in Southern California for the event.

“The SIMA board of directors feels it is important to bring the Image Awards ceremony to a more accessible location in an effort to include more people from more of our member brands and retail partners,” Palladini says.

The ceremony has taken place in Cabo for the last seven years and includes awards in categories such as breakthrough brand, retailer and surfboard model of the year, as well as product and brand honors.

“The SIMA Image Awards have grown to be a very influential and important program to our industry,” says Doug Palladini, president of SIMA and vice president of marketing for Vans. “There are so many people involved with the products and brands nominated for SIMA Image Awards each year, and not all of these people can be in Cabo at Surf Summit for the final awards ceremony.”

Entries for the next round of SIMA Image Awards will be open to all paid SIMA members in the fall. The awards will be for products at market from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. For more information, visit sima.com.

About time.... Cabo isn't a surf mecca - its a drinking and fishing mecca. There are many much better places from San Diego up to Hun tington that would be way more appropriate. ...by the way, I live in Cabo.
