Irvine-based Taco Bell Corp. will be expanding its menu July 5 with a partnership with chef Lorena Garcia to create more gourmet dining options for customers.

The menu, called Cantina Bell, will add eight new ingredients, including whole black beans, 100 percent all-white meat chicken marinated in citrus and herbs, and corn salsa to existing items to add a focus on freshness. Garcia, who was featured on the television show “America’s Next Great Restaurant” and will appear on “Top Chef Masters” next month, began working with Taco Bell in October 2010.

“Lorena is truly an inspiration, and her new menu and passion for food has inspired a new menu with the freshest flavors that exceed expectations,” said Brian Niccol, Taco Bell’s chief marketing and innovation officer. “Additionally, in true Taco Bell fashion, she worked with us to create a high quality, value-driven lineup of new offerings comprised of new ingredients that offers a broader array of tastes and flavors our consumers are seeking, all wrapped up in terrific Taco Bell value and convenience.”

All menu items will be under $5 and include bowls and burritos, as well as sides of black beans and rice or chips and salsa or guacamole.

“As a chef, I saw this as an opportunity to help create diversity to the Taco Bell experience, and to introduce and celebrate the tastes and flavors from around the world to millions of customers,” Garcia said.
