'Taste the Fire' at Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco today
Eatery offers free chicken meal until 8 p.m.

Costa Mesa's El Pollo Loco is giving its guests free chicken today until 8 p.m. The freebie comes in response to the Taste the Fire Challenge between El Pollo Loco and fried chicken chain KFC.
In a television ad that first aired Sunday, El Pollo Loco dared KFC to battle it out for the title of best grilled chicken. The public taste test will decide which restaurant offers real grilled flavor.
"Our expert cooks have been grilling chicken for more than 30 years, and we are so sure that our flame-grilled chicken is superior, we can’t wait to prove which chicken has authentic grilled flavor,” says El Pollo Loco CEO Steve Carley.
