10 things I'm following in 2010

From sports to politics and everything in between – there’s a lot to watch for in the coming year.

By Steve ChurmPublished: December 01, 2009

Tucked in my coach seat at 38,000 feet on a trans-Pacific flight to Asia is as good as any space to download the 10 things I will be watching in 2010. I’m typing fast because the guy in front of me just moved his seatback to the upright position, and I can finally reach the keyboard – barely – and type again. So here’s my Top 10 “Watch List” for 2010.

1. Will mainstream O.C. businesses respond to the viral wave? It’s here, and every one of your employees is riding it – on your dime and time. The coffee break is old school. It’s now the social media break. Smart companies will leverage Facebook and Twitter.

2. Like Waldo, where’s consumer confidence? We need to find it, PRONTO! Everything good begins with confidence. You can’t buy it. It has to be organic. Until it’s back and sustained, the recovery is just fool’s gold.

3. Here comes round two of the 241 Toll Road Extension debate. Together, surfers, environmentalists and a tribe of San Clementians 18 months ago torpedoed the project. But it’s coming back with a new alignment that will take motorists away from the spiritual surf grounds of Trestles and deeper into Camp Pendleton Marine Base before the toll-way connects with the I-5. For the sake of our regional economy, we need it to move goods and people between O.C. and San Diego. It’s an economic death sentence without it.

What about Brandman University? OC's first private adult learning university and the new programs such as a doctrate in nursing. Let's see an interview with Chancellor Gary Brahm. Safe trip. Happy Landings.
