Thermador, an appliance company based in Huntington Beach, announced the creation of the 2010-2011 Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge, a competition offering up to $25,000 in prize money, plus a trip for two at a plush resort in Arizona.

Professional designers, architects and builders must submit their original kitchen designs, created using Thermador appliances, until December 1, 2011. (Submission have been accepted since March 1.)

Contest entrants can go online to read the official rules, complete an entry form and submit a design overview of up to 300 words. They must provide a minimum of two color photographs of their completed kitchens. Additional photos or artwork – including blueprints and floorplans – are welcome but not required. “Before photos” also are accepted.

Eight regional winners will receive $5,000, plus a weekend for two at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale (Ariz.) Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch. The trip will include a visit to the Thermador Gallery and Training Center.

“The Design Challenge is our way of honoring design professionals," says Zach Elkin, director of Thermador’s Luxury Division.

In 2008, the company held a space-planning design competition centered on Thermador’s modular column refrigeration system.

“This year, we’ve made it easier than ever before for design professionals to create an entire Thermador kitchen by opening the contest up to our line of cooking, cleaning, refrigeration and ventilation products,” says Elkin.

Thermador, launched more than 75 years ago, created the world’s first wall ovens. It is a division of BSH Home Appliance Group, a subsidiary of Bosch and Siemens Home Appliance Group.
