The 17th annual event, which took place at Fashion Island in Newport Beach on Sunday, was yet another successful step in the fight to cure cancer. More than 30,000 people showed up to support the race, and it is already nearing its goal of $3 million dollars.

Preliminary totals reached $2.8 million, but fundraising efforts will run until Oct. 17. Newport Cancer Care brought in the most money with $48,000. Lauren Heller, a breast cancer survivor who was honored during the Survivor's Tribute, was honored for having raised more than $46,000 this year – it's the third year in a row she's been the highest individual fundraiser.

This year's event had more than 26,000 registrants, up by 2,100 from last year. More than 1,700 of them were breast cancer survivors. There were also 787 teams – United States Postal Service had the largest with more than 1,400 members.
