Toastmasters International celebrates 85 years

Santa Ana is home to the original club, Smedley Chapter 1, which was founded Oct. 22, 1924.

What is now an international network of more than 12,000 public speaking clubs around the world had humble roots, starting on Oct. 22, 1924 in Santa Ana. Toastmasters International was was founded by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley in the basement of the YMCA building.

Smedley's legacy lives on at Smedley Chapter 1 in Tustin, California and clubs throughout the world. Toastmasters currently serves more than 250,000 active members in more than 106 countries.
 
To celebrate this landmark event, the original club will be celebrating at its host facility in Tustin with a wine and cheese reception  at 7:30 p.m., the celebration from 8 to 9:00 p.m. at Cranbrook Senior Living, 1262 Bryan Ave., Tustin.
