In a strategic effort to converge personal computer and television technologies, Irvine-based Toshiba America Information Systems will merge its operations with another Toshiba subsidiary this July.
New Jersey-based Toshiba America Consumer Products – manufacturer of home entertainment systems – will join the Digital Products Division of the local laptop manufacturer subsidiary. The operations will be housed in Toshiba's Irvine offices.
Toshiba's joint portfolio will include laptops, storage devices, telephone systems and HD flat-screen TVs, among a variety of other high-tech devices.
The move will help generate sales and strengthen Toshiba’s overall brand image, say company reps.
“This integration of our PC and TV businesses makes us the strongest player in the combined category in the U.S. and allows us to be a leader in providing synergies between the products and in offering innovative solutions for the connected home,” says Mark Simons, president of Toshiba America Information Systems. “We will also achieve efficiencies of operation that further enhance our competitiveness.”
Toshiba America Information Systems is home to other Toshiba subsidiaries, including Toshiba America Business Solutions, Toshiba America Electronic Components and Toshiba America Medical Systems. Toshiba Corp. is headquartered in Tokyo.
