![]() So what else should you and your business know about this new law? Irvine-based Fisher & Phillips, an employment law firm, is offering some helpful tips for employers. For starters, if your employees conduct business on their cell phones while driving, it's time to think about amending the employee handbooks. And employers are liable to pay for the ticket – especially if a staff member is answering a message from the boss. Employers should also be aware of the potential liability of their companies. “If an employee gets in an auto accident while driving in violation of this new law, the company – not the employee – will be the target of litigation,” explains Chris Boman, a partner at the firm. “If the company has not done anything to comply with the new law, the liabilities could be enormous.” For more on the law, visit dmv.ca.gov or visit Fisher & Phillips at laborlawyers.com. And if you're traveling by plane during the holidays, there's also some things to consider before boarding a flight. The month of December tends to bring the highest passenger volume at John Wayne Airport, with the busiest days from Dec. 19 through 28. To help holiday travelers have a painless experience at the airport, it has released some helpful tips. Passengers should plan ahead. The airport began its Improvement Program recently, and drivers are cautioned to be careful on airport roads and arrive two hours before your flight leaves. Check with your airline ahead of time to confirm that your flight is still leaving at the arranged time. Because of heightened security measures, travelers need to be aware of what is and is not allowed on aircraft. Any gifts should be unwrapped, and check with your airline for checked bag requirements. Finally, be aware of the parking structure options at John Wayne Airport. If you do leave your car at the airport, there are three terminal parking structures in A1, A2 and B2 for $2 an hour or $20 a day; parking lot C costs $2 per hour or $17 a day; and there is an off-site parking lot, as well. Be sure to check tsa.gov and the airport's Web site for other travel information. Other transportation headlines: Toll road extension shot down OC METRO Minute: Dec. 19 OC METRO Minute: Dec. 15 |
