UC Irvine Extension instructor Marty Wartenberg has received the University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Region West Excellence in Teaching Award for his contributions to continuing education. Wartenberg’s award recognizes the educator’s accomplishments in developing a project management program curriculum, course development and leadership.
Wartenberg’s award is the first time it has been accorded in this region; the honor recognizes educators who have demonstrated a strong commitment to continuing education, outstanding teaching practices and student mentoring and innovative teaching practices.
"Marty deserves this prestigious honor for his significant commitment to continuing education and the 20-plus years he has invested in the creation of top-quality UC Irvine Extension programs and courses," said Gary M. Matkin, UCI’s dean of continuing education, distance learning, and summer session. "His unwavering dedication as an instructor, mentor, and advisor has touched thousands of students across many industries and has set the high-quality standards students expect from UC Irvine Extension."
Wartenberg has also served as an advisor and instructor of several innovative programs, and helped the UC Irvine Extension develop the first comprehensive management certificate program on the West Coast. Wartenberg accepted his award earlier this month at the 2012 UPCEA Western Regional Conference in Park City, Utah.
