![]() Allergan Foundation, an affiliate of Irvine-based Allergan Inc., funds the lecture series. Allergan is health care company, which provides eye care and specialty pharmaceutical products worldwide. The series is designed to educate people about biological advances that one day may affect their lives. Prather, Fred Kavli chair, UCI Environment Institute director and Earth system science professor, will review the current scientific understanding of global warming. Pataki is an earth system science and ecology & evolutionary biology associate professor; she will address options for mitigating and adapting to changes locally. Over the last two centuries, people have mined and burned fossil fuels, cleared forests, and developed agriculture and industry. The resultant pollution of the Earth's atmosphere is driving climate change. Discussion will include frequently asked questions and common misconceptions about climate change. The School of Biological Sciences is hosting the event. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
