    Stephens-Romero believes that STREET can help switch to new technologies while also keeping the culture and economy alive – and thriving.

    STREET takes an in-depth look at details: which fuel vehicles will use in the future, how it is made, where it comes from and how it is transported, among other specifics. It can also show what changes must take place to hit a specific goal.

    "The research is well positioned," Samuelsen says, "considering the development of a hydrogen infrastructure is at the crossroads of global climate change, the future of the automobile, the state economy and California's leadership in addressing the conflict between energy and the environment."

    Samuelson is the man behind UCI's hydrogen fueling station, which is the most technologically advanced, publicly accessible station worldwide, according to the institution.

    Samuelson, UCI scientists Marc Carreras-Sospedra, Jack Brouwer and Donald Dabdub also worked on the 2060 study, which received a portion of its funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.
