UCI Extension launches mobile device, app development courses
The two new offerings are expected to help business professionals achieve success in a tech-driven world.

UCI Extension this summer will offer two new online courses designed to provide business professionals with the tools to be successful in an increasingly tech-driven world: Creating Websites for Mobile Devices and Application Development for Social Networking Sites.
Both courses will emphasize skills that will meet the needs of individuals who rely on the Internet to drive their business efforts and strategies.
“These course offerings reflect UC Irvine Extension’s commitment to benefiting the information-technology leaders of tomorrow by offering the most cutting-edge learning experiences of today,” said Melanie Mitchell, assistant director of business, management and legal programs at UCI's continuing education arm.
As part of UCI Extension’s Certificate in Mobile Application Development, students who enroll in Application Development for Social Networking Sites will learn to create applications that integrate with major platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Creating Websites for Mobile Devices will cover the design considerations and development steps when building websites for smartphones and similar tech items. The course is a portion of UCI’s online Web Design and Development Certificate program.
“As the number of smartphones and other mobile devices continues to grow, Web designers need to ensure their sites are compatible with such devices," said Mitchell. "Similarly, the applications enjoyed by users of social networking sites are only increasing in numbers, and students need the skills to build and launch their own. Each of these new courses will empower participants to shape the ever-changing world of technology-based communication.”
Instruction begins June 17 and runs through Aug. 7.
