![]() Feldman (right) will join 17 other individuals who will be honored during UCI's 40th annual Lauds and Laurels ceremony on May 13 at the Fairmont Newport Beach. Awardees were selected by a committee of alumni, faculty, students and volunteers based on their commitments to UC Irvine. Feldman left his tenured post at UC Berkeley and joined UCI in 1964 as part of the original 25 founding faculty members at the campus. He assisted with building what was then the only school dedicated to information and computer sciences in the University of California system. The Extraordinarious is the pinnacle award for the Lauds and Laurels ceremony. It is presented to those who have contributed to the advancement of UCI and its missions of teaching, research and public service. “Lauds and Laurels is more than an awards program for us,” says Jorge E. Ancona, assistant vice chancellor of alumni relations and executive director of the UCI Alumni Association. “It’s an opportunity to showcase the tremendous impact the people of UC Irvine make on our community at large.” The organization has recognized more than 600 individuals in the awards’ 39-year history. Proceeds from the ceremony benefit its scholarship programs. “This year’s ceremony spotlights truly outstanding Anteater leaders spanning the fields of health care, technology and international business, to name just a few,” Ancona says.
