UC Irvine is gearing up for the opening of its new $40.5 million medical education building on Saturday. The 65,000-square-foot facility supports the School of Medicine's work to remain a leader in the field.

The building will serve as an educational center for UCI's medical students, where they will be able to study using innovative technologies and platforms.

Among the facility's offerings: a telemedicine center with a 60-seat interactive auditorium where students can watch live medical procedures at the university's Douglas Hospital in Orange. It will also provide simulations and a clinical skills center.
