UCI’s Gary W. Matkin lands excellence award
The honor is given to select UC Berkeley alumni for outstanding career, community and life accomplishments.

Gary W. Matkin, Ph.D., dean of continuing education at UC Irvine was awarded the 2010 Excellence in Achievement Award from the Cal Alumni Association at the UC Berkeley.
The award is given to select UC Berkeley alumni for outstanding career, community and life accomplishments.
“Cal will always be associated with my colleagues and mentors that have been so important for my intellectual development,” Matkin said. “Their teachings and examples continue to inspire me."
In addition to serving as UCI’s dean of continuing education since March 2000, Matkin oversees the operation of multiple university programs, including the University Extension, Summer Session and UCI Distance Learning Center.
Matkin, who holds a doctorate degree in higher education and a master’s degree in business administration, also initiated and continues to guide the campus’ OpenCourseWare initiative.
