NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson knows the value of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He literally grew up in his club in Waco, Tex., crediting its programs with nurturing his skills as an athlete and developing his renowned work ethic, commitment to teamwork and positive attitude. Tomlinson was an active member of his club from the age of 6 until he went to college and says that is where he learned to play football and other sports, in which he excelled. When Vizio executives asked Tomlinson to visit the staff as a holiday surprise, it was decided that the company would share the holiday spirit with the Boys & Girls Club. Approximately 90 children between the ages of 6 and 12 were bussed to Vizio headquarters in Irvine to visit with the NFL star. After Tomlinson greeted the children and shared his experience growing up with Boys & Girls Clubs, he encouraged them to believe in themselves, to never let anyone tell them they can’t do something and to always have fun. “Every morning when you wake up, you can choose to have a good attitude,” says Tomlinson. “And right now is the best time – you are learning all the time and learning is fun. The more you learn, the better off you’ll be.” Each child was then given a present and had the opportunity to take a picture with Tomlinson. Vizio then donated a brand-new flat panel TV, Wii and Guitar Hero for the Santa Ana clubhouse. |
